picture anarchy
PHOTOS/GRAFS, Rue Dénoyez, Belleville-Paris, March 2010
This piece was only found by snooping around, high and low, for interesting graffiti in Belleville. If you know Paris, you know the city signs are pretty high on the buildings. Near by was an old squat and more political pieces than this one (but surely not as entertaining!)
You can always count on the French to speak up, right?!

PHOTOS/GRAFS, East Berlin, March 2011
This is another amazing piece I found in Berlin last March. 3 posts only and you get the idea- the city is painted ALL OVER. Oh and I love it. I'm still trying to find a city that compares- if you think you know, please let me know. There's not much I can say, the piece speaks for itself. It both positive and gloomy, colourful and dark. love, Love, LOVE.

This is one of the most intricate pieces I found in Paris (mind you, in 3 days). Love the the size, the details and the 3D glasses! Soon enough, we'll have to be wearing'em everyday. Am I the only one who thinks 3D should only be for IMAX nature movies?

picture statements: ... can't buy me love
PHOTOS/GRAFS, East Berlin, Off the Spree, March 2011
All I can think about with this graf is DOLLA DOLLA BILL YA'LL. Of course, for those who do not have the Queen on their bills, it would be hard to understand the link. But you can still listen to C.R.E.A.M., hip hop classic!
I'm not sure if I don't prefer the sketching on the piece to the actual graf. All and all, it's a pretty funny piece. Found this around the Spree in East Berlin- where (and this won't be a surprise) all was painted. Have I told you I loved Berlin?! Ha. The difference between Berlin and Paris is in the quality of pieces of street art- as I told you previously, Paris is a city of tags whereas Berlin is full of intricate pieces.
On another note- you could probably buy me love if you fit a few (most) of the things on the list (oh yes, ze list). Just sayin'. (cash rules everything around me c.r.e.a.m. get the money)

picture ...well you know
PHOTOS/GRAFS, Belleville, Paris, Mars 2010
To be quite honest, not too sure what to say about this piece I found around Belleville- well except that I love it! A stenciled piece pasted on a purple wall, of a beautiful woman with green goo coming out of her.
What I came to find out of the graf scene in Paris is that it's mostly tagging, beside a few great pieces (which I'll post later). Though I'm not the craziest fan of tags, there's something raw about it in Paris. Some go all out, on very high spots to paint their name in bold letters. You've got to admire that.

When in Paris, be sure to stop by Galerie 154 off Oberkampf street- they've got anything and everything graffiti going on. It's a small studio space but it packs big pieces. Check out their blog here.
picture statements: le graffiti doit rester un mot merdeux
PHOTOS/GRAFS, Belleville, Paris, Mars 2010
The loose translation of this quote by Dali would be : 'graffiti must remain an shitty word, an insult to the uptightness of the mind'. I stumbled onto Rue Desnoyers, a street of madness in Belleville, where everything, I mean EVERYTHING was painted. This really cool, laid-back, quiet long-haired dude came out of his door and handed me a piece of paper, with his blog written on it- check it out here. Pedro Dorian's been sticking it to Paris since 1991. In my book, that makes him pe-rrrretty awesome. I thought this stencil by Dorian was great and spoke true.

This has to be one of my favorite pieces from my Berlin trip. Little ode to hip hop with Queen Latifah and Flavor Flav- could you have guessed?

picture something I wish I had done
So Complex kills it again with a retrospective of the 50 hottest street artists out right now. This is definitely something I wish I could have done (if I had the knowledge that Sebastian Buck, the founder/curator/writer of unurth.com has).

picture toy story
PHOTOS/GRAFS, Mitte, East Berlin, March 2011
As per usual, I ignored this blog for a few weeks while not doing anything that interesting. Well, I mean, apart from being in Paris and Berlin. Here's a shot I took the first day in East Berlin. These stencils just made me laugh because they remind me of Toy Story (hence reminding me of my better half, my sis).
I feel like I don't need to tell you about my love affair with Berlin, as, if you've been, or even read about it, you'd know it was custom made to my taste (and the dash of humour being the fact they speak German and I can't understand it, one bit) At one point, I just stashed my camera away- there were too many pieces to shoot, and I was entertaining conversations.
I'll be posting pics from Paris, Berlin and some of London in the following days/weeks. Enjoy!
